A Love so Beautiful is the show I got into right after Meteor Garden. I was drawn to it because the main girl is played by the same actress as Shancai from Meteor Garden. And I'm so glad I watched this because it really was super precious. It has the cheesy romance thing down but it also has people with brains which is nice. And the mean girl wasn't really a mean girl which is also a lovely benefit. A Love so Beautiful is about Xiaoxi who has the hugest crush on the smartest guy at her school Jiang Chen. She is determined to win his heart but that is easier said then done.
SPOILERS AHEAD READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
OVERALL STORY: I thought that the story developed rather nicely. Obviously Jiang Chen realizes that she is such a sweetheart and his feelings start to change. But we see growth in a lot of the characters and get to watch their perspectives change. I love the transitions from the beginning being at highschool, then we get some college, then at the end we get them as adults. It is nice to get their different...experiences from the different moments from their lives. They change so much in between each and it is pretty great to watch. I wouldn't say there is a love triangle in this show cause she has literally no interest in Friendzone Fred but I guess it's a matter of opinion.
MAIN COUPLE: There is nothing I love more than to watch a show about some guy who keeps everyone at a distance and is a generally "cold" person. And then to watch them meet someone who changes their whole perspective. That is what this show did. Xiaoxi gave him this light and made him feel like he could do anything. She gave him confidence and hope. She brought this light into his life and watching that is the cutest thing. He gives her stability and common sense because she doesn't often have that. He also is super sweet with her I mean there is this scene where they are dating in college and she is freezing so her arms are all wrapped up so she can't flip the pages of her book. So while he is studying he turns the pages for her. ISN'T THAT ADORABLE?! I think so anyway. Probably because I'm a big reader so that is couple goals for me.
OTHER COUPLES: So the other romance is pretty cute too. It is between Lu Yang and Lin Jingxiao. She is interested in this doctor dude at the beginning (who is pretty cute admittedly) but then Lu Yang just comes out and defends her. He buys a star for her and does everything he can to make her happy. One time he colored his hair and walked up in front of the school because he knew she was afraid to give her speech. And then he ADMITTED HIS LOVE IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. I should probably be embarrassed on his behalf but it was actually super cute. They end up getting married and I just love them.
CHEN XIAOXI: She really is a naive girl for the majority of the show. And that is not a bad thing I mean it is pretty endearing. She never gives up on Jiang Chen and I mean I would have ages ago. I mean she is super straightforward about it which is kind of funny I mean the exchange in the first episode:
Xiaoxi: I like you.
Jiang Chen: I don't like you.
And then we get 23 episodes of her proving him wrong so way to go girl! I really do love her she is super sweet and adorable especially around Jiang Chen.
JIANG CHEN: He was such a unique love interest. I mean how he managed to be totally concerned about her yet convinced everyone else he wasn't takes serious talent. And watching him grow as a character from this guy who keeps to himself and never really...lives to how he is standing up for himself and the way he wants to live. With Xiaoxi's help he stands up to his mom and tells her he wants to be a doctor. (which he is a very cute one if you were curious) He was just such a fun character to watch grow.
LIN JINGXIAO: I liked her as soon as I met her. She stood up to these loser guys and then became such a good best friend to Xiaoxi who needed someone as levelheaded as her to keep her out of trouble until Jiang Chen stepped in. We also get to hear a little about her past which is interesting but I wish we could have gotten more. She was such a fun character though!
WU BOSONG: This is Friendzone Fred. Who is equally endearing and annoying. I mean he had his moments but overall he just annoyed me. I understand not giving up when you really want something but I think in a lot of cases it is better to just accept reality. She was never going to like him I mean literally she friendzoned him with FOOD. There is this moment when the whole group is eating (Everyone in the character glossary) and Jiang Chen is like here have this piece of meat and of course she gets pretty excited because her crush is giving her food. So Friendzone Fred is like well I have to step up my game and dumps his whole bowl of chicken into her bowl. Then she LITERALLY DIGS UNDER HIS OFFERING JUST TO FIND THE ONE JIANG CHEN GAVE HER I MEAN WOW REJECTED. He's not a bad guy just romantically he has a lot of problems.
LU YANG: He was such a funny character. I loved how great of a friend he was and the way he felt about Lin Jingxiao was the freaking best. But we also get this depth into his character when we figure out about his heart disease. I mean you don't see it coming but then BAM it's there. And it becomes so critical. But he is so nice because he is the normal friend. Bless him.
