Crash Landing on You is a story about a girl (Se-ri) who gets caught, while paragliding, in a storm that blows her from South to North Korea. After finding herself in enemy territory she is found by a group of North Korean soldiers who agree to help her get home. With time running out and enemies closing in will Se-ri find her way back to South Korea? Or will she find herself in the clutches of those who would do her--and those she has come to care for--harm?
This show was absolutely fantastic. It has been a while since I watch a Kdrama that really made me zip through the episodes like I did with this one. It reminded me a little bit of Descendants of the Sun which I think made me like it even more. The characters were so relatable and I couldn't help but adore them instantly. And the romance was spot on I swear. I have never laughed so hard or cried so hard in a while and it felt good. This is definitely a show I highly recommend so if you are looking for a good drama to watch look no further.

OVERALL STORY: I really liked how the plot was written in this show because I never felt bored or that the story slogged at all. (Which is a relief cause I've had a ton of those recently) The stakes continued to grow so that while the characters felt the anxiety I did too. And I loved how the story explored so many different aspects of the world. The tensions between the North and the South, Se-ri's horribly greedy brother, and just different parts of North Korea. I was so impressed with the way this was written. Although I am going to go into characters more in depth below I do want to discuss some of them up here as well as others that won't be mentioned below. I really enjoyed getting to know Ri Jeong-hyeok's family because the politics surrounding that were so interesting. And I was surprised--and pleased--with how things ended up for them. I also was intrigued by the mystery surrounding the death of his brother (who I just want to say has to be one of the kindest people I have seen in a show. I really wish he hadn't died) and how that played into the main story as a whole. It was interesting how various threads from so many different characters came together at the end. (Reminds me of the book The Count of Monte Cristo) The characters had such a depth to them and I loved getting to know them. This show had a lot of high stakes and a bittersweet ending but I am left feeling quite satisfied.
MAIN ROMANCE: I am trying to find the words to express exactly how I feel about the relationship between the two leads. I adored them. I loved their chemistry. But none of that feels quite as accurate as I would like. But basically I really loved them. They actor and actress both did a great job making this relationship realistic. I felt like their progression was well paced so that when they did finally admit they cared for each other it didn't feel rushed or unnatural. I also loved the lack of (long lasting) drama between them. There was no stupid misunderstanding that caused them to split apart when they could have easily talked to each other. For some Kdrama's it works but I would have been disappointed if that had happened for this drama. There were two times in the show where they lied to protect each other. Neither were long lasting and did not even dent their relationship. It was nice to have them just be in love and stay that way.
SECONDARY ROMANCE: I actually did not really care for the relationship between Seo Dan and Seung-joon until right at the end. Which was really cruel to be entirely honest with you. It was cruel because I had finally come to love both characters when Seung-joon was killed. LIKE COME ON. I was okay with how things ended up because of Seo Dan's revenge and her undying love for him. It was really bittersweet but I guess it couldn't have ended any other way that would have had such impact. I am very upset that they didn't get their happy ending because they both really deserved it.
RI JEONG-HYEOK: He made me laugh so hard throughout this drama. At first he seemed like a more "cold" carefully emotionless person but he is actually this precious cinnamon roll. He would do the cutest things and he is just one of the sweetest people in this show. I loved how he never wavered from doing the right thing and he cared deeply about those around him. But he would not hesitate to protect them with everything he has. Sometimes he was so oblivious to things which was hilarious. All those things that went right over his head. I had never seen this actor before and I will definitely be looking into watching more with him in it.
YOON SE-RI: I thought she would be completely different than she turned out to be. Like she was a rich, sassy, kick butt person all along but, at first, I thought she would be more arrogant. I'm not saying she wasn't arrogant at all but I loved coming to understand her character and seeing a different side to her. It was fun to see the main girl be the crazy rich owner of a successful company. And to have had her be a genuinely kind person. I felt like she went through a lot of growth throughout this show. She learned to look outside of herself as well as learn more about those around her. She was also hilariously honest which was great.
GU SEUNG-JOON: Honestly I did not care for him until a couple episodes before he died. Which I am still mad about. He became so awesome and in the end he died doing the selfless thing to protect the woman he loved. He grew so much. Honestly, I sobbed my heart out when he died. Nothing is worse than seeing a character come so far only to be cut short. So if you don't care for him at the beginning I promise you, you will and then your heart will be ripped from your chest. Something to look forward to.
SEO DAN: Like Seung-joon I did not like her until towards the end of the show. She was a little obsessive and controlling in the beginning which I wasn't fond of. But she grew as a character and let go of the things (and people) that would not bring her happiness. I really liked her a lot by the end and the way she reacted to Seung-joons death was both heartbreaking and awesome. Heartbreaking because she watched him die (fabulous acting by the actress, I was super impressed) but awesome because she went out and found the organization that killed him and destroyed them. You go girl. And by the end she was happy with her life, she missed him like crazy though. I was really happy for her character growth.
CHO CHEOL-GANG: I. HATED. HIM. SO. MUCH. Why did they have to drag on his character for so long? I get that he's the main villain and all but they had done the perfect ending for him AND THEN HE SURVIVED?! Needless to say I was not pleased. But he does die so if you are worried this little piece of crap does not survive to the end of the show. However, I am still bitter about the way he finally died. So before his "actual" death there was a point we had thought he died and where I think he should have died. Man-bok, who had been tortured by this guy, had shot him. And I couldn't think of a better way he could have gone. Killed by the one he had always considered lower than him. BUT NO. They just had to bring him back for a little while longer. I understand the plot and blah blah blah. But I did not feel as satisfied by his actual demise. That was my one major complaint about the show.
THE BOYS: I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. Which is why I catagorized them under one name because I group them all together. This is a group of North Korean soldiers that I promise you, you will come to love so much. Pyo Chi-su was the member who was constantly delivering sassy comments and I adored him. He acted all tough saying "I don't care about Se-ri at all." But they actually became really good friends and seeing him finally admit that he cares about her was precious. I also loved that he became obsessed with sented shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I have never laughed so hard in my life. Another member named Kim Ju-muk had to be one of the most relatable characters on the show. He was obsessed with South Korean dramas and it was the funniest thing to hear him talk about them. And he was labeled the "expert" on South Korea because of this which was the funniest thing. There was Park Kwang-beom who was this really good looking dude who acted like the "super cool" "rule follower" dude but actually wasn't. I just want to say the scene with him and the ripped jeans was one of my favorite parts of the show. No joke. Lastly there is Geum Eun-dong who is like the little brother of the group. He is the most innocent, precious person on the show. And I would take a bullet for him. Actually I would take a bullet for all of them to be honest with you.
JEONG MAN-BOK: He got a lot of character development for a side character which I think is pretty awesome. And I was so proud of him throughout his journey to make up for his mistakes and do the right thing. It took a lot for him to forgive himself for his part in Jeong-hyeok's brothers death but I am glad he did. I don't blame him for what he did and I am glad he finally chose to do the right thing at the end. And he also basically joined "the boys" which made him even better. His interactions with them were hilarious I swear.
