Mu-ra: Goddess
Bi-ryum: God
Namsuri: Habaek's Servant
Secretary Min: Secretary to CEO
Bride of the Water God (Also known as Bride of Habaek) follows a psychiatrist named So-ah who finds out she is a divine servant of the gods. Because of this role she finds herself having to take care of Habaek while he fills out his divine mission: to get all the sacred stones so he can return to the divine realm and be crowned king. But there are more complications then he expected as he and So-ah become closer. But their love story is destined to have a sad ending and there is more at work than either of them saw coming.
I have no idea what I think about this show to be honest. I really liked it in the beginning and then in the middle there was nothing I wanted to do more than drop it and by the end I loved it. Safe to say, this show threw me through a loop. I think it it a must watch for any avid K-drama fan so I recommend watching it at least once. It had some really good parts in romance, humor, and just overall plot. Should you watch this? I recommend fitting it into your "to watch" list but this is not the WATCH RIGHT AWAY type of show.

OVERALL STORY: The plot for this show was pretty interesting because it was between gods. They don't see the world the same way as humans so that makes it intriguing. What I found the most interesting was the fact that that the story--or the villain--did not turn out like I expected. Hoo-ye is introduced as this all powerful demigod about halfway through the story and I thought he was going to become the main villain but he didn't. Which I still don't know if I'm disappointed or relieved about that. I am disappointed because a fight between the gods (and a demigod) would have been really cool. I'm relieved though because I firmly believed Hoo-ye was a good person and he proved me right. The story was interesting although at points the characters ruined it for me so that even the good plot wasn't enough to keep me wanting to watch. But the plot twist with the sacred stones being lost and Habaek's whole back story was interesting. It was unexpected and I never really knew how things were going to turn out. But the thing with So-ah's father? That was so unexpectedly depressing that I am still reeling from it. Here is the short version: When So-ah's father left she tried to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge into a lake. She ended up surviving and we find out towards the end of the show that she survived because her father saw her jump and jumped in after her. He saved her but ended up dying himself. I was not prepared for that level of depression. Overall this story was interesting but I had some serious problems in the middle of the story (I talk more about that in the romance and character sections) however, by the last couple of episodes I was sucked right in. I felt like I would have really enjoyed this show if it had stayed at the level of those last or first two episodes.
MAIN ROMANCE: Like with most things in this show I am unsure of how I feel overall about their relationship. I felt like the main girl, So-ah was unusually cruel to Habaek because she didn't want to face her feelings and get hurt. I mean I understand that but he delivered the most beautiful confession to her and she REJECTED HIM. I couldn't believe it. And I wasn't sure if I could ever forgive her for that. But after he left and came back from the heavenly realm she finally was willing to date him for the time they had. Which is what she should have done IN THE FIRST PLACE. But I digress because after he came back they were really cute and I loved them a lot. Their relationship was amazing at the end and I wish it had been like that more in the show. He needed her to give him some humility and humanity. She needed him to give her support and happiness. A really good pair that deserved more than I think they originally had. Personal opinion though. I enjoyed how things ended with them because he gets to stay with her the rest of her life then he will go back to being king. Which is a satisfying ending for these two.
SECONDARY ROMANCE: This was between Mu-ra and Bi-ryum. There relationship was hilarious and I liked it a lot. I was not a huge fan of either of them but together they were pretty great. I liked them because he cut down her severity while she gave him common sense. They worked together and I liked seeing them ending up as a couple by the end. I wish we could have had more romantic scenes with them but their friendship scenes were pretty great as well. I know a lot of viewers have said they watched this show purely for this couple so if you are unsure about the main couple you might enjoy the secondary couple.
HABAEK: Like most things in this show he really hit his stride in character development towards the end. I think I really started to like him as a character when he started to see outside himself and really become king material. And he wasn't so stoic all the time which was definitely a plus. He was hilarious throughout the whole show though so that's a plus. I really liked him as a character and I almost want to buy the show because he is just so precious. I love this actor and I think he did amazingly well at portraying this character.
YOON SO-AH: I have a love/hate relationship with her. She really bugged me because of how she would hurt other people because she didn't want to get hurt. Which I understand but it still bugs me. Because she would be happier if she would just let herself admit she loves someone. When she does I feel like she became a better and happier person. But she annoyed me a lot because of all the damage she would cause because of her determination not to get hurt.
SHIN HOO-YE: He used to be my favorite character but then by the middle endish I was not all that fond of him. I didn't hate him but he kept trying to create a stupid love triangle which I was not happy with. But he went through a lot of character development which was really depressing and inspiring to watch. I didn't think he would come out of the experience a good person but he surprised me. He decided to be a good person and live his best life. I was so proud.
MU-RA: I did not like her for the most part. I felt like she was conniving and liked to hurt others just to make herself feel better. She really didn't go through much character growth but we did come to understand her more. But I could never really like her because of her inability to look outside of herself.
BI-RYUM: I liked how funny he was but he bugged me because of how often he thoughtlessly did things. Like when he kept attacking Hoo-ye for seemingly no reason. We ended up finding out that Hoo-ye killed his friend but like it seemed pointless. And he was creating the villain for the story. He always let his emotions get the better of him and that was exhausting.
NAMSURI: He was hilarious and he was a supportive friend the whole show. Bless him for not causing drama. I don't have much to say about him besides that he was just a great person I loved him the whole show. Also him and Habaek were hilarious.
SECRETARY MIN: He was my favorite character in the whole show (well the one I always liked. I think Habaek was probably my overall favorite) because he would just show up, do something kickbutt or hilarious and then just leave. I don't know why I liked him so much but he never made me angry so that was a lot of points in his favor. Unfortunately we didn't see a lot of him but that's life I suppose.
