Are You Human Too is about an AI named Nam Shin III--who was created to look like the famous business heir Nam Shin--who has to take Nam Shin's place when Nam Shin becomes critically injured. But few can know his secret and those who crave power are doing everything they can to destroy him. While defending Nam Shin's position Nam Shin III must discover his own humanity...and if he wants to follow what others tell him to do or make his own path.
My spoiler free review is this: Watch this show. It made me laugh, cry, and shout all within its episodes. I loved the journey of humanity and the definition of love and self. There are so many amazing lessons in this show! And the romance is absolutely adorable--so watch it!

Personal Note: Hello Readers! I realize it has been forever since I wrote a post for an Asian drama. Life has just been so crazy and so my time has been taken up with school and work. I have integrated dramas into my life but the one I am currently watching (When the Camellia Blooms) is a longer show and as a result it will be a while after this post before I get to anything else. So I promise I am still watching...it is just slower than it usually is. Thank you for reading!

OVERALL STORY: This plot was absolutely fantastic! It was longer for a kdrama (I watched the 30+ episodes) but instead of getting bogged down like I usually do I binged this like crazy. And man was it a wild ride! To be entirely honest I was mad at the majority of the main cast (excluding David and Nam Shin III) most of the show. Kang So Bong became one of my absolute favorites about halfway through but before that she bugged me a lot. I think what I liked most about this show is the fact that it really delved into what it really means to be human. Is being human being made out of flesh and bone? Is it being "naturally" born? This show really shows that being human has nothing to do with those. Yes that may be the so called "dictionary definition" but it is so much more than that. And Nam Shin III is absolutely fantastic at showing this. I like the growth of not just him but everyone throughout the events of the show. This show delves a lot into business politics and the horrors that come with it. I was shocked by the beginning of the show when Nam Shin was taken away from his mother. That was absolutely horrible and definitely set the stage for the rest of the show. You discover a lot about what really happened to his father and the horrors that Nam Shin had to face. The acting was absolutely phenomenal and many of them joined the ranks as some of my favorite korean actors/actresses. I do want to quickly address the ending. If you have done any sort of digging into this show you've probably heard that it has a sad ending. My answer? Yes and No. This show does have a happy ending but there is a lot of heartbreak that occurs before that. If you are worried about it being a sad show please don't skip it because of that because it does have a good ending. I do want to note though that I remain unsatisfied in the "conquering villain" department. We see that he got what he deserved but I would have liked to see him get arrested and see him convicted for the crimes he committed. His smug face has haunted me and I would have liked to see that go away. Just a personal thing but it didn't ruin the show at all that, that didn't happen.

MAIN ROMANCE: I cannot even explain how much I love their relationship. Kang So Bong becomes one of the only people to believe in Nam Shin III's humanity. She is the one who defends him and encourages him to be his own person. As people slowly turned against him in favor of the human Nam Shin I loved that Kang So Bong did not relent in her endless defense of Nam Shin III. She believed in him when no one else did and supported his decisions. She saw past the exterior and into his heart. (Pardon the cheesiness.) Their interactions were so cute especially because she teaches him what it really is to be human. I think one of the best things about their relationships is how realistically it develops. A relationship between a robot and a human is a tentative thing to attempt. If you portray it wrong it can come off as incredibly weird. (You might be thinking I'm weird for even shipping them....I'm a weird person, I know) But this show does it beautifully. She hates him and is disgusted by him when she finds out what he is. Frightened is probably a better word. But then she really sees him and that changes everything for her. She looks past her prejudices and biases to see the person in front of her. And it wasn't love at first sight for him either which was nice. I loved their development so much.

SECONDARY ROMANCE: I am not going to delve into this one too deeply because I don't know if I'd even call it a relationship. This was between Nam Shin and Ye Na. Ye Na has loved him since forever and has wanted nothing more than his love in return. I'd hoped that he would rely on her and fall in love with her to take his edge off but that didn't happen. They didn't even end up together and honestly I don't blame her. But I had hoped that their relationship--I don't know what else to call it--would have developed differently.

NAM SHIN III: He was so precious. Seeing him interact with the world and those around him was super cute. Oh my heavens. He was nice to people who probably didn't deserve it which is an admirable characteristic. Like I mentioned earlier I loved his development in the show. He really grew from a robot that follows his orders to someone who definitely could be called a person. Seeing him stand up and CHOOSE for himself was awesome. Especially when people--or should I call them jerks-- would try to control him. There was a lot of people trying to use him or destroy him and I was grateful when he started to see that. Overall he has definitely made his mark on me. I've read books about stuff similar to this and I loved seeing a show about it on TV. His character was very well done and I loved him a lot.

NAM SHIN: I don't even know where to begin with him. For a while he was the one I hated the most in the show. (A lot of people took turns though.) He was a spoiled brat and did things to hurt people just because he thought they were "unfair." Yes, I know he had an awful past and I had a degree of pity for him. I did try to understand him but the moment he took control of Nam Shin III out of pure spite and used him to hurt Kang So Bong and others? That was the final straw for me. He used his past as an excuse for his awful behavior and I couldn't help but be more disappointed in his character. He caused more problems than he needed to and I miss the days when he was in a coma. However, I do want to note that by the end I did not have blinding hatred for him. I just lightly dislike him now. I wish he could have had a larger redemption arc because I think I would have liked him more then.

KANG SO BONG: From someone I disliked at first to one of my favorite characters Kang So Bong has certainly made an impact. I must have mentioned it hundreds of times by now but I loved her unwavering defense of Nam Shin III's humanity. Anyone who can look past the exterior of someone and look at who they really are is someone to be admired. She goes through quite the journey to get there though which I appreciated. It made it so much more realistic. It is funny to look back at how she started though because she has changed so much since the beginning. She is my favorite character second only to Nam Shin III.

OH RO RA: I legitimately hated her for the first part of the show. As soon as she found Nam Shin again it was like Nam Shin III didn't even matter anymore. And that was sickening because she, his mom, should have cared more about him then she showed at first. She was willing to kill him for heavens sake! Oh she bugged me to no end because of the things she said and did in the name of her so-called "real" son. But I did like her by the end because she did redeem herself and admit that she cares about Nam Shin III. (HUGE SPOILER) Just before she dies that is.

SEO JONG GIL: He is the person who has the longest and deepest hatred from me in this show. He is constantly having a smug face and NOTHING bothers me more than that kind of expression. I do admit he was a good villain for this show. He was slimy and conniving. He is like that piece of gum on the bottom of your shoe that you think get off until you take a step and feel that delightful sticky feeling. Then you scrub your shoes and do everything you can to get it off. Then you face the same problem the next day. He started as a potentially redeemable person to someone that can't be redeemed even if he tried. He was a sick, twisted man. He enjoyed hurting others and didn't care about anything but his own gain.

SEO YE NA: I find myself saying this a lot but I really hated her at first. She was such a jerk to Nam Shin III. For legitimately no good reason!? She acted like he was nothing and she could do anything she wanted with him. And I really hate her for that reason. She finally leaves him alone and just becomes indifferent. I liked her character more then because I could really appreciate what she was going through. She had a sort of redemption arc that I wish we had, had for Nam Shin. And I felt really bad for her at the end because she really lost everything.

JI YOUNG HOON: I loved his character then I hated him--then I liked him--then I hated him--then I loved him. This rollercoaster of emotions was mostly due to his own confusion about the friendship he was developing with Nam Shin III. I understand that but some of his actions were really thoughtless and pure emotion based. He did stupid things because he felt like he had to prove that he didn't care about Nam Shin III or something. It really bugged me because I knew he cared about him. But eventually he came around and I am so grateful for his character. He was a really smart guy and he always had a brilliant plan. I felt like he ended up at the perfect spot at the end. I really liked him.

DAVID: I am not going to say too much about him because he really wasn't a main character. I just loved his character because he was funny and also just his relationship with Nam Shin III was the best. We end up finding out there is a lot more to him but I think I just liked him best as Nam Shin III's father. Bless this amazing dude.
